What it is
When a chapter is done, the finalize flow offers a quality gate. The chapter review scores your prose across six dimensions — prose quality, pacing, dialogue, sensory detail, character voice, and how human the writing reads rather than machine-generated — then names specific strengths and a short list of actionable improvements, each anchored to a real passage. AI Polish is a separate pass that rewrites paragraph by paragraph for you to accept or reject. Language Check is a proofread-only pass that fixes words from the wrong language, calques and missing diacritics without touching the writing itself.

How to use it

Finish the chapter
From the chapter bar, press Finish Chapter, or use Finish ▾ → Finish Chapter in the Smart Editor. The finalize view opens with your draft beside the review.

Read the scores
Six dimensions are scored out of five, with an overall verdict. The scores are a signal about where to spend attention, not a grade.

Locate an improvement before acting on it
Each improvement has a Locate button that selects and scrolls to the exact passage without any AI call, so you can judge for yourself whether you agree.

Apply the fixes you agree with
Apply AI fix rewrites just that passage and shows it as a diff. Accepted fixes are marked done so you cannot apply the same one repeatedly.

Run AI Polish
Polish rewrites the chapter paragraph by paragraph and presents every change for accept or reject. It also fixes language purity issues in the same pass, at no extra cost.

Run a language check on its own
If you only want the language pass — wrong-language words, calques, missing diacritics — use the languages button in the toolbar. It never runs automatically.
What it gives you
It tells you whether your prose reads as machine-written
The "AI tells" dimension scores how human the writing sounds, naming the specific habits that give generated prose away — while deliberately exempting em-dashes, fragments and anything that is simply your own voice.
Suggestions point at real passages
Every improvement is verified against the chapter before it is shown. Locate costs nothing, so you can check the AI understood before you pay for a fix.
Strengths are named too
A review that only lists faults is demoralising and unhelpful. This one tells you what is working, which is what you want to protect while revising.
The language pass is a real proofreader for uk and cs
Ukrainian drafts get checked for russisms and surzhyk, Czech for anglicisms and missing diacritics. It fixes only language errors and leaves your writing alone.
Good to know
- The review is one model's opinion of one chapter. Treat low scores as a prompt to look, not as a verdict.
- The "AI tells" score deliberately does not feed the overall score yet — it is a new dimension being measured before it is weighted.
- AI Polish rewrites paragraphs. On a chapter you have already tuned by hand, review its changes carefully rather than accepting all.
- Language Check never runs by itself, by design. It is your call when to proofread.
- A review is cached per chapter. Editing the chapter afterwards can make an improvement stale, and the app says so rather than pointing you at the wrong text.
Questions
What does the "AI tells" score mean?
It scores how human the prose reads, where five means indistinguishable from a published human author. It looks for the specific habits that mark generated fiction, and explicitly does not penalise em-dashes, sentence fragments or punchy runs, which are ordinary craft.
Does polish change my voice?
It is instructed not to, and every change is shown as a diff you can reject. If you find it flattening you, reject those paragraphs — or skip polish and use targeted edits instead.
Do I have to review a chapter to finish it?
No. You can mark a chapter complete without running a review. The review is offered, not enforced.
Why is my Ukrainian review scoring readability oddly?
The readability grade is an English-calibrated formula. In Ukrainian and Czech it is a useful relative signal between your own chapters, not an accurate grade level.
