Charm Chat, the research assistant
A separate floating chat for questions, so your writing session stays clean.
What it is
Charm Chat is a floating assistant, separate from the writing conversation. It can see your Story Bible, so it can answer questions about your own book — who a character is, what you established about a place — and it also answers ordinary research questions, such as what a 1940s tram ticket cost or how a particular illness progresses. Crucially, it cannot touch your manuscript: it writes nothing, saves nothing and changes nothing. It exists so that asking a question does not derail the session you are in.
Where to find it: Workspace → the floating quill bubble. Drag it anywhere; if you hide it, a quill button appears in the header to bring it back.

How to use it

Tap the bubble
The quill bubble floats over the workspace. Tap it to open the chat panel; tap minimise to send it back.

Ask about your own book
It reads your Story Bible as canon, so "what did I say about her mother?" is answerable without you going to look.

Ask about the world
Research questions — historical detail, terminology, how something works — are answered as an ordinary assistant would.

Move it out of the way
Drag the bubble anywhere on screen and it springs to the nearest edge and stays there. Hide it entirely and restore it from the header.
What it gives you
Your session stays about the story
Looking something up in the main chat pollutes the transcript that becomes your Story Bible. Charm Chat keeps research out of the record.
It cannot damage anything
By design it has no write access to your manuscript, chapters or bible. Asking it a question is always safe.
Book-aware, so answers are specific
It knows your characters and places, so it answers about your story rather than giving generic writing advice.
One thread per book
Each book keeps its own conversation, so switching between projects does not mix up what you were asking about.
Good to know
- It follows your interface language rather than your book language — it is a tool for you, not a source of manuscript prose.
- It cannot write to your book. Prose you want in the manuscript must come through the writing conversation.
- Its conversation is stored on your device and capped at the most recent 50 messages per book.
- It is an AI and can be wrong about facts. Verify anything load-bearing.
Questions
How is this different from the main chat?
The main chat writes your book — it builds sessions, feeds the Story Bible and drafts prose. Charm Chat only answers questions and touches nothing.
Does using it cost credits?
Yes. It is an AI conversation like any other and is billed the same way.
Can I get rid of the bubble?
Yes. Hover it and press the dismiss cross. A quill button in the workspace header brings it back.
